High technology is having an effect on baseball. Instrumented baseball bats and motion-analysis systems make it possible to minutely analyze a batter's swing. Bat construction is also changing, with players often using non-wood bats through college. The development of the composite BaumBat is discussed.

The development of an unmanned power glider called Perseus is expected to add to the knowledge of the stratospheric ozone shield. The Perseus should be ready by 1994. It will fly over the Antarctica and hopefully return with air samples that scientists have so far been unable to obtain.
