High temperature densification forming of alumina powder - constitutive model and experiments

Article Abstract:

Densification and grain growth of alumina powder compacts were studied under pressureless sintering, sinter forging and hot pressing. A set of constitutive formulas by Y.S. Kwon and colleagues were utilized to calculate the densification under diffusional creep. A unique grain growth formula is suggested by generalizing the grain growth model of Wilkinson and Caceres to determine grain growth during densification forming process of ceramic powders under general loading states. Material parameters were experimentally determined.

Constitutive equations for solid propellants

Article Abstract:

The mechanical characteristics of the Space Shuttle redesigned solid rocket motor propellant are analyzed from a phenomenological point of view. All models represent the impact of strain rate, superimposed hydrostatic pressure and cyclic loading on the stress and dilation response of the material. Special emphasis is placed on the prediction of volume dilatation. The resulting model is the best representation of available information and is calibrated by employing only a few tests.

A state variable constitutive model for superelastic Ti-6Al-4V based on grain size

Article Abstract:

A new microstructural state variable based model for superplastic Ti-6Al-4V correlates with the grain size of the alpha phase. The model accounts for the alpha grain growth behavior and size dependence of the flow. The resistance of superplastic to flow localization is influenced by the dependence of the deformation rate sensitivity on alpha grain size and strain rate tensor. The comparison of the measured deformation of a tapered rod with simulation tests the model.
