House study tackles new era in R&D

Article Abstract:

Representative Vern Ehlers will lead the efforts of the House Science Committee to formulate a new US science policy. As a physicist he is particularly well-qualified for the position. Ehlers wants to encourage more collaboration among research groups and faster diffusion of research findings.

A deadline for an AIDS vaccine

Article Abstract:

Pres Clinton outlined an initiative to develop an AIDS vaccine within 10 years in a speech at Morgan State University. AIDS researchers welcome the promise of more financial support, but some criticize the strategy of promising the vaccine by a specific date.
