Thailand weighs AIDS vaccine tests

Article Abstract:

Genentech and Biocine researchers are planning long-term clinical trials in Thailand to test the effectiveness of several AIDS vaccines. Although NIH decided in 1994 not to run the same trails in the US, Thailand is expected to approve the trials due to the extremely high infection rate there.

Can one type of HIV protect against another type?

Article Abstract:

Researchers have discovered that prostitutes in Senegal who become infected with HIV-2 appear to gain some protection against HIV-1, the more aggressive virus. However, there are problems in attempting to develop an attenuated vaccine for AIDS.
