How can viral variation be overcome?

Article Abstract:

HIV's genetic variability may not be as great of a barrier to the development of an AIDS vaccine as is commonly believed because killer cells rather than antibodies are being examined as possible correlates of protection. Unlike antibodies, killer cells do not differ much from one viral strain to another.

New clues found to how some people live with HIV

Article Abstract:

Molecular biologist Nicholas Deacon and his team have discovered that a man infected with HIV in the early 1980s who has not developed AIDS or transmitted the virus was infected with a very weak HIV strain that lacks parts of the nef gene. The finding could influence AIDS vaccine research.
