ISO 9000: Saudi export businesses' points of view

Article Abstract:

Attainment of ISO 9000 registration results to internal and external benefits. Data obtained from 32 firms operating in the industrial cities at the East Coast of Saudi Arabia showed that internal benefits arising from attainment of ISO 9000 registration include greater quality awareness among employees, improvement in communication and operational efficiency and reduction of errors and accidents. External benefits that can be derived from ISO 9000 registration include satisfaction of customers' requirements, improvement in market share and reduction in vendor audit.

A systems view of top management commitment

Article Abstract:

The systems approach, which allows managers a holistic viewof the processes they manage, can help achieve the desired committment level among top managers. In the systems approach, properties such as 'emergence', 'heirarchy', 'communication' and 'control' are used to assist top managers in preparing for change. It is conjectured that unless justifiable statements canbe made about all the four properties, commitment cannot be assumed to exist.
