Identification of small-sized cracks on cross-stiffened plate structures for ships

Article Abstract:

The results of the experimental and numerical studies conducted for monitoring the integrity of a 1/20th model of the side shell of a ships structure, using its vibration responses are presented. The model is tested for different crack development scenarios under random exciting force having a dominant spectral frequency much lower (approximately 2 Hz) than the first natural frequency of the structure (approximately 580 Hz).

Nonlocality effect in atomic force microscopy measurement and its reduction by an approaching method

Article Abstract:

The role played by nonlocality effect in atomic force microscopic (AFM) measurement is examined. The ratios of the characteristic intermolecular interaction distance between the AFM tip and the sample, the characteristic size of the tip and the characteristic nano-structure and/or the nanoscale roughness on the surface of a sample help in the formulation of dimensionless parameters.

An approximated harmonic balance method for nonlinear vibration of viscoelastic structures

Article Abstract:

A simple methodology for nonlinear vibration analysis of viscoelastic shell structures is established. The method is limited to periodic damped responses and couples an approximated harmonic balance method with a one mode Galerkin's procedure, which leads to an amplitude equation for free nonlinear vibration analysis of curved viscoelastic structures.
