Influence of axial stress and dilatancy on rock tunnel stability

Article Abstract:

A technical paper claims that the magnitude of the intermediate principal stress in the failed zone surrounding an opening depends on the magnitude of a dilatancy parameter rather than being a function of the sum of the maximum and minimum principal stresses. Although this premise may be true, its validity cannot be proven using the methodology presented in the paper. The analysis method is particularly flawed in using the Mohr-Coulomb and Hoek and Brown failure criteria.

Factors affecting mechanical and creep properties of silicate-grouted sands

Article Abstract:

A recommendation is made to base grouted sand behavior analysis on both partial and total filling of pores to study particulate as well as continuum behavior. Continuum behavior, however, is posited to be optimum for peak stress analysis.

Cohesive and adhesive properties of silicate grout on grouted-sand behavior

Article Abstract:

An examination is presented of real-world applications of chemically grouted sand strengthening mechanisms. Topics include load capacity, property relationships, and compressive capability.
