Information rich

Article Abstract:

Increasing competition and demanding customer service are forcing companies in the automotive industry to use information technology, which is crucial for design and product data management in manufacturing processes. Application of 3D techniques allows closer integration of design activities with analysis processes and digital mock-up to produce better and safer products, meeting customer needs. Information technology reduces lead-time and costs and increases quality.

Making it work

Article Abstract:

UK companies must focus on manufacturing excellence to assure global success, according to John Collins, chair for part of CADCAM Integration '93. His section examines manufacturing strategies in an integrated engineering environment. He claims that too many business leaders think manufacturing hurts a company, rather than being vital to it. Only restructured organizations that rethink their missions can fully use information technology.
