Introducing a formal quality system in a medical department: case study of the ENT (ORL) Department at the Catholic University Leuven

Article Abstract:

Analysis of experiences in introducing a formal quality system in a university ear-nose-throat- head and neck surgery medical department reveals that the experiences could be of use to other departments as well. Important considerations include formulation of a mission statement, development of a continuous improvement scheme, implementation of a quality circle and optimization of medical and administrative procedures.

All CTOs will need to know the skills available in the hospital, the kinds of support services offered, the integration of those services, the procedures for adapting to new technologies, and a strategy for planning competitive advancement in the future.
