Iron porphyrin and mercaptojuglone mediated reduction of polyhalogenated methanes and ethanes in homogenous aqueous solution

Article Abstract:

Reduction rate constants of seventeeen polyhalogenated methanes and ethanes were measured in aqueous solutions. These solutions contain bulk reductants and the electron-transfer mediators iron porphyrin or juglone. According to the results, iron porphyrin system support a reaction mechanism in which one electron is transferred in an outersphere process to the polyhalogenated alkane with bond breakeg in the transition state. In the juglone system, two competing reaction mechanisms are suggested: an SN2 reaction at the halogen and outersphere electron transfer to the polyhalogenated alkane.

Occurrence of C10-C13 polychlorinated n-alkanes in Canadian midlatitude and arctic lake sediments

Article Abstract:

Researchers examined sediment core samples from six Canadian lakes for the presence of C10-C13 polychlorinated n-alkanes (PCA) to get the historical trends in its deposition and fluxes.
