Practice makes perfect

Article Abstract:

Plastic surgeons can now avail of an innovative computer simulation software called the Immersive Workbench to help them plan complicated surgeries. It was developed by researchers from Stanford University and NASA Ames Research Center. The software merges CT scans, magnetic resonance and ultrasound data to come up with images of deformities and injuries in virtual reality. Surgeons can then try out the best surgical procedure using track-shutter glasses and special gloves. The software gives plastic surgeons the chance to interact in a virtual environment with their patients.
