Is Web business good business?

Article Abstract:

More companies are using the World Wide Web as a revenue-generating medium. They set up Web sites as promotional and corporate image tools that provide information on their products and services. Cybermerchants apply the rules of traditional business which include having a strong financial background, attracting and keeping customers and offering high quality products. Internet-based businesses are expected to boost sales from $518 million in 1997 to $6.6 billion by the year 2000. Consumers are attracted to electronic commerce because it allows them to compare products effectively before making a purchase.

Nurturing neighborhood nets

Article Abstract:

Some 200 community computer networks are running in the US. One of these is the Austin Free-Net which provides free use of the Internet to the low-income, largely minority community of East Austin, TX, through publicly accessible terminals located in churches, recreation centers and local businesses. With the use of these electronic connections, the organizers hope to strengthen the link between the residents, institutions and programs within the community.

Clicking onto Webzines

Article Abstract:

Webzines are World Wide Web-based publications that provide vigorous interaction on important as well as ridiculous topics. Online publishers, however, have yet to maximize the potential of the medium. They are also concerned about the financial aspect of their business since most Web users refuse to spend money on the Internet. Webzines that are most likely to succeed are those that capitalize on the Web's interactive features.
