Is the universe out of tune?

Article Abstract:

A theory known as the inflationary lambda cold dark matter model explains many properties of the universe very well but when certain data are analyzed, a few key discrepancies arise. The puzzling data come from studies of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation where astronomers divide the CMB's fluctuations into 'modes', similar to splitting an orchestra into individual instruments, indicating that the highly successful model of inflation is seriously challenged.

The darkages of the universe: Astronomers are trying to the blank pages in our photo album of the infant universe

Article Abstract:

The ultimate aim of cosmology is to capture the entire history of the universe and provide a seamless picture of the descent from a shapeless gas of subatomic particles. Astronomers are becoming interested in searching the missing links of the cosmic photo album, which will show how the universe evolved during its infancy and made the building blocks of galaxies like the Milky Way, promising to become one of the most exciting frontiers in cosmology by 2016.

The fate of life in the universe

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that the universe will grow cooler and more diffuse as it continues its expansion eternally. As a result, quantum mechanical limits on life will cause the end of life in the far distant future.
