Reports that the job market for new science PhDs are somewhat misleading, and the picture varies greatly between fields. The market for chemistry, physics and microbiology PhDs are examined. Science's Next Wave (www.nextwave.org) will present a PhD employment forum March 7-May 2, 1997.

Quality control is a rapidly growing career opportunity in the biotechnology industry. It is a good career choice for young scientists because it does not usually require an advanced degree. Creativity and attention to detail are important attributes for quality control scientists.
