Evolutionary and systematic biologists converge

Article Abstract:

Participants at the Jun 1996 meeting of evolutionary and systematic biologists discussed Linnaeus' biological classification system and luminescent bacteria living in the organs of some squid species. Michael Donoghue stated that Linnaeus' system is misleading and outdated.

Opening the way to gene activity

Article Abstract:

Researchers are making important discoveries concerning the role that histones and other proteins in the chromatin play in controlling gene expression. They have identified four histone acetylating enzymes and five enzymes that remove acetyls from histones.
