Kinetics of the reduction of hexachloroethane by juglone in solutions containing hydrogen sulfide

Article Abstract:

The reaction of organic matter-rich juglone solutions on hexachloroethane (HCE) was analyzed to determine the biogeochemistry of natural systems and the mechanisms that alter xenobiotic compounds. Tetrachloroethene was formed by the reaction of HCE with a solution composed of Na2S, Na2S + S0 and Na2S + juglone. The reaction rate exhibited a nonlinear dependence on juglone concentration that involves electron transfer and nucleophilic reduction reactions between mercaptojuglone and hydrogen sulfide.

Iron porphyrin and mercaptojuglone mediated reduction of polyhalogenated methanes and ethanes in homogeneous aqueous solution

Article Abstract:

Reduction rate constants for several polyhalogenated methanes and ethanes were measured in aqueous solutions containing bulk reductants and iron porphryin and kinetic results show robust applicability to environmental systems containing common reductants. Rate constants varied 4 orders of magnitude and results provide a 'fingerprint' of reactivity for examination of reactive species and rate-limiting steps in those systems.

Effects of solution composition and ph on the reductive dechlorination of hexachloroethane by iron sulfide

Article Abstract:

Solution composition and ph play vital roles in the reductive dechlorination effect of iron sulfide on hexachloroethane. Parametric rate studies revealed that environmental factors such as ph and ionic and organic solution composition affect the rate of hexachloroethane dechlorination. The reaction of such environmental factors occurs at the mineral surface and is highly ph-dependent.
