Knowledge creation in the telework context

Article Abstract:

Teleworkers have more opportunities to acquire higher explicit knowledge, compared with workers in traditional work environments, due to their greater access to online information and documentation as engendered by advances in information technology. However, 'telework' distances people from co-workers and reduces opportunities for socialization, thus minimizing knowledge accumulation among teleworkers. Organizations must thus focus on socialization, newcomer orientation, training and documentation to maintain learning and knowledge in a 'telework' organization.
