Making pay

Article Abstract:

One-third of organizations have a 'competency-based' pay system or plan to have one within 1999. Competency-based pay involves a mixture of behaviors, attitudes and skills that employees need to perform their jobs effectively. Three general types of competency are identified. These include technical skills applicable to the particular occupation and core competencies, which can be applied to jobs within the organization. Core competencies also depict the organization's basic values which may include team-building and unity.
