Making proteins without DNA

Article Abstract:

Biochemist Stephen B. H. Kent founded a drug company called Gryphon Sciences, which created a synthetic version of erythropoietin (EPO), one of the most successful biotechnology drugs of all time in which Gryphon inserts an unnatural amino acid in the EPO peptide backbone. In the long term Gryphon wants to develop an HIV inhibitor, with continued research on the structure of proteins.

The triumph of the light; extensions to fiber optics will supply network capacity that borders on the infinite

Article Abstract:

Every day, miles of new fiber optic cable are installed, which has a capacity hundreds of thousands of times the bandwith capacity of satellites or microwave transmitters. The most immediate problem is that the signal must be broken up to accomodate the much slower electronic switching systems.
