Making sense

Article Abstract:

Microsoft Research is improving its speech-recognition software by passing the process through four stages. A word is searched through a root word stage, passed on to a parser for its function, compared with a built-in dictionary and relegated to a database which enters each meaning or use of the word.

Many people are worried that the dramatic increase in Internet users will soon render it practically useless. Routing bottlenecks might prevent it from connecting computers to the system, all possible addresses may be used up, and data flow will be so slow so as to render it impractical.
