Article Abstract:

Cortex Pharmaceuticals and Helicon Therapeutics are ready produce pharmaceutical products for memory improvement. Cortex will produce Ampalex to help counter memory loss in Alzheimer's disease while Helicon will produce a drug that improves the performance of brain protein CREB, which is essential in long-term memory.

Endangered again

The private property rights movement wants to curtail or eliminate the Endangered Species Act (ESA), but most biologists and environmental scientists support renewal of the act. Congressman Don Young and Senator Slade Gorton are leading the effort to gut the ESA.

The fear that spongiform encephalopathies may be transferred from animals to humans has caused disaster in the British cattle industry and may also affect the US. The FDA wants to put a stop to the practice of feeding animal-derived protein to cows.
