When nutrients turn noxious

Article Abstract:

Stanford University researcher Peter M. Vitousek published a report on the serious environmental effects of nitrogen from anthropogenic sources. Fertilizer use, automobile emissions and nitrogen-fixing crops have resulted in a nitrogen 'glut' that causes soil-nutrient loss and algal blooms.

In the heat of the night: warmer nights may slowing tropical forest growth and raising carbon dioxide levels

Article Abstract:

Scientist studying tree growth patterns in the tropical forests of Costa Rica revealed that trees may be emitting large amounts of carbon dioxide due to slower growth. The slowed growth rates are also linked to warmer average temperatures due to lower photosynthesis levels.
