Bullwinkle's big brother

Article Abstract:

The Auger TLP, Shell Oil Co.'s first tension leg platform (TLP), won the Outstanding Civil Engineering Award for 1995. The Auger TLP, a floating structure held in its place by 8 lateral mooring lines and 12 tendons attached to foundation templates, is the first ever combined oil- and gas-drilling and production TLP in U.S. waters. The Auger TLP can boast of being the deepest platform, 3,280 ft from the seabed through 2,860 ft of water to the top of the flare bottom, and having the deepest pipeline constructed in the US.

Pavement management pays off

Article Abstract:

Pavement management systems (PMS) offer help in improving the overall quality, and in assessing the efficiency of pavements. The PMS assists in removing the rehabilitation project and helps in saving the cost by predicting the pavement deterioration. The Pavement Quality Initiative, a statewide program in Massachusetts and California, will monitor overall progress in the quality improvement efforts. The PMS will assist in achieving high-quality pavement programs in Massachusetts and California.
