Glossy strategic plan hits the streets

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has published a strategic plan that the agency intends to use to guide its future progress. The plan document is titled 'Investment for Humanity' and identifies six major areas of focus for the NIH. Funding and support for the strategic plan is uncertain.

Childhood vaccines: the R&D factor

Article Abstract:

The Clinton Administration is considering 'universal purchase' of vaccines for children. Vaccine manufacturers maintain that their research and development efforts would suffer if the federal government becomes the only entity buying childhood vaccines.

Center for the mind pleases the senses

Article Abstract:

The Neurosciences Institute, the brainchild of Nobel Prizewinner Gerald Edelman, opened its new $16 million facility on Oct 15, 1995. Funded primarily by the Neurosciences Research Foundation, the institute houses 32 full-time, fully funded researchers.
