Probing the unsolved mysteries of the deep

Article Abstract:

A Jan 1993 meeting at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution discussed plans for researching vent glow given off by hydrothermal vents. Discovery of an eye patch on a deep-sea shrimp suggests that the source of the light may not be thermal radiation.

Novel anticancer agents move closer to reality

Article Abstract:

Two teams of scientists have discovered new compounds that prevent mutated ras genes from making cells cancerous. The drugs may be effective in treating the 20% of cancers caused by ras activity.
