Microsubs go to sea

Article Abstract:

The design of the Deep Flight I submersible takes advantage of the latest in materials to provide a lightweight yet pressure-resistant aspects to submersible's body. The Deep Flight I is not a microsubmarine, but is more like an underwater flyer, which takes advantage of the water's fluid properties for 'flight'.

A description is presented of the design and capabilities of the 3-foot-long autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) which has been developed by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. The AUV is used to measure Arctic temperatures.
