Missing Alzheimer's gene found

Article Abstract:

A team led by molecular geneticists Gerard Schellenberg and Rudolph Tanzi have identified a gene that accounts for up to 20% of familial Alzheimer's disease cases. The gene, located on chromosome 1, is highly homologous to a gene on chromosome 14 that accounts for the other 80% of familial Alzheimer's.

New Alzheimer's gene found

Article Abstract:

An international research team led by Peter St George-Hyslop claims to have found a gene responsible for 80% of early onset familial Alzheimer's disease cases. The gene, S182, located on chromosome 14, may be involved in protein transport within cells and should reveal clues to the disease's cause.

A mitochondrial Alzheimer's gene?

Article Abstract:

Researchers Robert Davis and W Davis Parker found high incidence of mutated cytochrome oxidase, a mitochondrial enzyme, in Alzheimer's disease patients. The finding supports the suspected link between poor energy metabolism and neurodegeneration, and may lead to a diagnostic test for the disease.
