The mystery of humanity's missing mutations

Article Abstract:

Scientists have discovered a clue to why human DNA has much less genetic variation than the genetic material of the great apes. Mathematical analysis of population genetics indicates that early humans lost genetic diversity when their population suddenly shrunk from 100,000 to 10,000.

Mitochondrial Eve refuses to die

Article Abstract:

Paleoanthropologist Milford Wolpoff argued that the maternal ancestry of all modern humans cannot be traced to a woman who lived in Africa 200,000 years ago, but molecular anthropologist Maryellen Ruvolo offered an estimate of when Eve lived.

Geneticists trace the DNA trail of the first Americans

Article Abstract:

DNA researchers have analyzed the genes of living native Americans and preserved remains of paleoindians and have discovered that the first Americans came from Asia. Four maternal lineages were found in Asia.
