Article Abstract:

The UK government established the initiative called the West Midlands Manufacturing Challenge to assist small and medium-sized companies in planning and implementing enhancements in their manufacturing processes. The Manufacturing Challenge was conceived and developed by Alan Curtis, group manufacturing director of Rover Group, and John Hudson, group chief executive of Wagon Industrial Holdings. A primary aim of the Manufacturing Challenge was to abolish piecework involved in manufacturing processes.
