Revision test

Article Abstract:

The third edition of QS9000, which is a manual of basic quality system expectations of carmakers and subscribing firms for suppliers of production and service parts and materials, has been released in the UK in mid-1998. The third edition contains a significant number of changes that have been made to the standard, as well as several additional requirements. Some of these changes and additional requisites include a redefinition of the words 'shall' and 'should' as used in the standard and a streamlining of the sections that dwell on 'process capability.'

Test bores expose tunneling troubles

Article Abstract:

The Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District contracted Black and Veatch of Kansas City, MO, to conduct tests on a $2-million test tunnel project in California. The firm's geotechnical review showed that tunneling was possible but the district was doubtful if it could be done. The two primary tunneling options were tested and both failed prompting the firm to examine a third option which is the two-pass approach. Bidding for the tunnel project is slated for Sep 1998.

Myths about test score comparisons

Article Abstract:

Educational test results are not a valid measure for comparing the quality of education. Declining test scores are a function of educating a broader range of the population and are not related to international competitiveness. Additional testing will not improve educational quality.
