Modeling viscoelastic and viscoplastic behavior of high density polyethylene (HDPE)

Article Abstract:

The viscoelastic and viscoplastic behaviors of high density polyethylene (HDPE) under uniaxial monotonic and cyclic loading were modeled using the modified viscoplasticity theory based on overstress (VBO). The viscoelastic modeling capabilities of the modified VBO were investigated by simulating the behavior of semicrystalline HDPE under uniaxial compression tests at different strain rates and a good match was observed between experimental data and simulation results.

Boundary-value problem for viscoelastic creep in deeply imbedded salt vaults

Article Abstract:

A constitutive model for for analyzing viscoelastic creep in deeply imbedded salt vaults is discussed. The model uses a set of numerical equations to account for the vault's fundamental parameters, such as vertical stress, horizontal stress and depth. The stress equilibrium is also presented in terms of the governing field equations. The results show excellent agreement with prviously measured data obtained from an actual salt vault site.

Nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive model for thermoset polymers

Article Abstract:

A nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive model, in differential form based on the deformation characteristics of thermoset polymers under complex loadings is presented. This rheological model incorporates a criterion to delineate loading and unloading in multiaxial stress states, and different moduli for loading and unloading behaviors.
