Russia: a changed land

Article Abstract:

The obsession of the former USSR for production has caused the destruction of some parts of its environment and the maintenance of life-threatening work places. However, this callous management of natural resources and disregard for individual public health is not local to the former socialist stalwart. Analogies can also be traced in the development of western countries and their colonies. This phenomena shows the possibility that our values can be distorted by political and economic pressures.

A dead-end energy policy

Article Abstract:

Future generations will condemn rather than uphold the nation's energy policy. The problem with today's policy began in the 1970s when legislators responded to an energy crisis with measures whose major consequence is the erosion of the nation's reduced carbon resources. Instead of a forward-thinking leadership, these legislators failed to take into account the impact of their actions on the availability of energy resources and the latter's value to future populations.

A Carnegie Commission report

Article Abstract:

A report concerning the need for the reorganization of the federal government's environmental research and development system was issued by the Carnegie Commission on Science, Technology, and Government. The report is warmly taken as a move towards improving the US environmental administrative system. However, doubts are expressed regarding the report's capacity of really changing the administrative set-up.
