New clean air rules may choke highway funds

Article Abstract:

The new regulations in Clean Air Act dictate that areas which cannot attain soot and ozone standards will not receive federal funding for highway construction. Although these new regulations may adversely affect major highway construction projects because they only allows 0.08 part per million ozone in the ambient atmosphere over eight hours and 65 ug per cubic meter of air in 24 hours, they offer public health benefits. These regulations will help in reducing pollution.

Administration pushes new clean air rules

Article Abstract:

The Clinton administration is planning to continue the implementation of new air quality standards designed to minimize the amount of soot and ozone in the atmosphere. However, criticisms were leveled against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for overestimating the number of lives that will be saved as a result of the said changes. In addition, EPA had allegedly failed to consider the costs of the new regulations.
