New information technologies and informality: comparing organizational information flows using the CSM

Article Abstract:

Information flows are influenced by the situations and perceptions and the relationships of the participants involved. Organizational information flows have been characterized by analysts in dichotomy. The formal versus the informal dichotomy is one of the most durable. Formal exchanges involve the distribution of information in a hierarchical fashion. Informal exchanges often involve interpersonal interactions which do not leave a permanent record of what had transpired.

Informal information flow and the nature of expertise in financial services

Article Abstract:

The correlation of informal information flows and the nature of expertise is analyzed. Illustrations showing the development of strategic information and communication technology innovations in financial services are used. It is proven that knowledge, power and tradeability are the three main aspects of expertise in mutually dynamic tension. Informal information flows are demonstrated to be an important part of expertise.

Assessing the organizational impacts of information technology

Article Abstract:

Businesses must anticipate the effect that information changes will have on the individual as well as the company. An analysis of the ways business can use information systems to support decisions is given, including both end-user and managerial problems. There are a number of ways information technology can impact an organization, including local and global effects and direct and induced effects.
