New neurons use 'lookouts' to navigate nervous system

Article Abstract:

Several research studies have identified groups of proteins that help guide developing neurons from the central nervous system to the muscles the neurons will ultimately control. The research may eventually improve understanding of how the nervous system integrates in the brain as well as in the periphery.

Herbert Benson: mind-body maverick pushes the envelope

Putting brakes on bone growth

Researchers have determined that gene-protein interactions moderate the growth of long bones. The gene-protein interactions slow the differentiation of chondrocytes, the cartilage cells in long bone growth plates that make bones grow.
