New satellite puts Japan in top tier of remote sensing

Article Abstract:

The Aug 1996 launch of the ADEOS satellite puts Japan's National Space Development Agency in the forefront of space-based research as well as rocket development. Experiments aboard the 3-year mission include the Ocean Color and Temperature Sensor and the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer.

A workshop in Japan addressed the challenges of linking traditional library resources to the online digital world. Improving information retrieval methods and the use of natural language processing are important issues. Stanford University is linking its library to the World Wide Web.
