New wetlands permits draw criticisms

Article Abstract:

The US Army Corps of Engineers revised draft of six new wetlands permit drew criticisms from both environmental groups and developers, citing the permit procedures potential for further wetlands degradation and destruction. The new permit process was designed to comply with the Clean Water Act and essentially replaces the Nationwide Permit 26. But the revised permit expands the geographic range by including all nontidal wetlands and adds a number of bureaucratic steps that has the potential of being exploited by developers in the utilization of wetlands.
