Panel hopes to splice pieces of U.S. research network: high-end computing

Article Abstract:

Pres Clinton appointed a panel to direct design of the Next Generation Internet, a technology test-bed for the information superhighway. It will combine elements of the university initiative Internet 2 and high-speed networks such the Backbone Network Service, which links supercomputing centers.

Final rules put universities in charge

Article Abstract:

New Public Health Service regulations give researchers and universities, not federal authorities, the power to decide issues of conflicts of interest in research. Under the rules, researchers must disclose financial interest of $10,000 or 5% ownership in firms affected by their research.
