Sea-floor data flow from postwar era

Article Abstract:

The US Navy released a wealth of data on the ocean floor gathered from 1985-1990 by a classified Geosat mission, following the recommendation of the CIA's Environmental Task Force. The maps, created for submarine warfare planning, will be of immeasurable value to the oceanographic community.

Researchers vie for role in nuclear-waste cleanup

Article Abstract:

A National Research Council report criticized an Energy Dept program which awarded grants for basic research on improving the cleanup of nuclear weapons facilities. The Department will draft a new plan that cuts research and moves more quickly toward cleanup with existing technology.
