Perpetual pilots

Article Abstract:

Water utilities are turning to the use of permanent pilot plants in place of the more costly treatment chemicals and operational modifications. The advantages of using permanent pilot plants include the ability to function as a full-scale water treatment plant and to mimic only parts of the water treatment process. Permanent pilot plants also provide a safe and reliable way to test ifferent treatment methods without compromising water quality. Staff training and public relations are the other benefits that are associate with permanent pilot plant testing.

The changing food consumer

Article Abstract:

The food preferences of consumers in the UK are changing not only in terms of the type of food being eaten but also in terms of location and time needed to prepare, cook and eat food. This makes the task of categorizing consumers more difficult, as consumers in the near future are expected to have significantly different food choices. Some of the factors driving this change include evolving household structures, the fragmentation of meals, the increasing proportion of working women and the convenience factor.
