Photocatalytic degradation of the Blue Algae Toxin Microcystin-LR in a natural organic-aqueous matrix

Article Abstract:

Toxic cyanobacterial blooms in drinking water supplies has prompted worldwide concerns because of their effects on human health. Low concentrations of cycanotoxins are not ususally removed by conventional water treatment methods. The applicability of heterogeneous photocatalytic degradation of low concentrations of the cyantoxin microcystin-LR in a natural organic-aqueous matrix is examined using titantium dioxide as the photocatalyst.

Chlorinated byproducts from the TiO2-mediated photodegradation of trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene in water

Article Abstract:

The mediated photodegradation of tetrachloroethylene and trichloroethylene chloroalkenes (CA) in water is investigated. Experiments are conducted wherein water specimen are diluted with TiO2 and CAs and placed inside a photoreactor. The solution is then trated with additives and subjected to a series of equilibrium tests. Results indicate that the addition of potassium thiocyanate reduces the degradation rate of the CAs.
