Plan would shut Kitt Peak facilities

Four of five telescopes operated by the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO) may be shut down as early as 1999. NOAC proposed the shut down in response to reduced funding from the National Science Foundation and a report asserting that other telescopes have higher priority than those at Kitt Peak

The 'Gallo case': Popovic strikes back

Article Abstract:

Popovic, who was charged with falsifying data on an AIDS research article and later exonerated by an appeals board, filed a suit against the Office of Research Integrity for $5 million. He claims the 'baseless' investigation had cost him four years of his career plus $350,000 in legal fees.

Getting a handle on air pollution's tiny killers

Article Abstract:

Researchers have simulated the process by which chemicals in the air condense to form particulate matter and devised a mathematical model of how hydrocarbons from gasoline become particles. The model should help in the regulation of air pollution.
