The 3-year delay and escalating $10 billion cost of ITER threaten the multinational pact to build the world's largest tokamak. Alternatives include: downsizing ITER; a preliminary plasma-burning experiement; or other untried magnetic configurations from several nations.

Texaco offers to settle copyright case

Article Abstract:

Texaco Corp has offered more than $1 million in an out-of-court settlement of a 1985 case that accused its researchers of illegally photocopying journal articles. The offer is viewed as a win for publishers of scientific journals.

Key NASA lab under fire for animal care practices

Article Abstract:

An outside report concluded that Ames failed to follow federal animal care guidelines and maintain NASA animal care standards. An investigation was launched when an animal died due to 'inappropriate administration of anesthesia.'
