Predictive modeling of the nonuniform deformation of the aluminum alloy 5182

Article Abstract:

A model is presented to account for transition between two thermally-activated deformation modes, the diffusion controlled solution drag and hardening, leading to recovery of discoloration. Data demonstrate finite element analysis with the incorporated plasticity equations can be used for predicting the mechanical response of a nonuniform aluminum alloy body.

On the nonuniform deformation of the cylinder compression test

Article Abstract:

The flow stresses of a barreled specimen in a compression test account for the continued barreling of the deforming specimen in magnitude and in trend. Data indicate that the model, which is based on the finite element simulation, is useful for the cylinder compression test involving significant degrees of barreling.

Deformation analysis of simple-shear sheet specimens

Article Abstract:

The elastic-plastic finite element method used to analyze the shear properties of several simple-shear sheet specimens examine a pure shear deformation in the plastic range by changing the shape and the positions of the slots. Due to unavoidance of the bending stresses in the shear zone, it is impossible to develop ideal loading condition of pure shear deformation in the tensile-loaded shear specimens. A pure shear deformation in the elastic range is obtained when the shear zone is of a soft material in compared to the environmental material in the specimen.
