Preserving the Laetoli footprints: the discovery of hominid footprints in East Africa reshaped the study of human origins. Now conservators have protected the fragile tracks from destruction

Article Abstract:

The Getty Conservation Institute and the Tanzanian Antiquities Department have exerted prodigious efforts to preserve the Laetoli footprints from further deterioration. The process involves the reburial of the footprints, using technologies that will minimize the effects of erosion, plant growth and animal foraging on the artifacts.

Article Abstract:

Chinese researchers are pursuing to preserve one of the country's richest cultural heritage, the Silk Road in Dunhuang. Primitive artifacts, caves and religious grottos are threatened with extinction as tourists and archeologists worsen the environmental condition of the place.

Preserving Nefertari's Legacy

Article Abstract:

Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II built an elaborate tomb for his wife Nefertari. A group of archeologists has restored the elaborately painted tomb in order to preserve it.
