Privacy in the workplace

Article Abstract:

Employers conduct intrusive monitoring on their employees to check on their productivity, and to prevent theft and corporate espionage. Intrusive monitoring includes checking on e-mail and voice mail. The other forms of monitoring include drug tests, genetic tests and honesty tests.

Behind bars in the U.S. and Europe

Article Abstract:

The shift in the American public's attitudes towards crime and not high crime rates is the reason why the US has higher prison rates than Europe. The number of people sent to prison, estimated to be more than 1.8 million, rose five times between 1972 and 1998.

Why do prisons grow?
