Project management: keys to success

Article Abstract:

Successful construction projects are governed by certain common factors. The parties concerned must, at the outset, identify their common goals, which must be clearly reflected in the contracts. The responsibilities of the team members must also be clearly delineated and communication lines kept open so that everyone involved will be aware of the project's actual status. Regular meetings should serve to monitor the project's performance against the allocated budget and time frame. Important documents such as correspondence and reports must be compiled in an orderly system for convenient reference.

Managing mobilization costs

Article Abstract:

Owners can help contractors manage mobilization costs by advancing them the payment for these costs. The mobilization stage of construction projects involves the preparation of equipment, employees and facilities which can lead to large start-up costs for contractors. However, owners must also realize that advances can result in overpaying contractors and increases the risk of losses should the contractor default. Factors to consider when providing mobilization payments are discussed.
