Project refines an ancient staple with modern science

Article Abstract:

The Center for Research and Advanced Studies' Tortilla Project has developed a prototype tortilla-making machine. The machine makes a tortilla that is more nutritious than traditional tortillas through a process that is more energy-efficient and less polluting than traditional methods.

Article Abstract:

Perkin-Elmer's licensing agreement with Roche Molecular Systems Inc is an example of the way that licensing stifles research. Perkins-Elmer cannot release important data to the research community because of its agreement with Roche, which owns the patent on PCR.

Chimp colony offered for quick sale

New Mexico State University has announced plans to sell PRL, which includes the largest chimpanzee colony in the US and does important research on AIDS vaccines. White Sands Research Center and the federal government are among potential buyers.
