Pumping the market

Article Abstract:

The Pumps Market Development survey report suggests that the market for pumps is expanding in the UK. The growth was 10% in 1995, and since then the pump sector has generated a total revenue of 846 mil pounds sterling. The market for pump parts grew by 21% to 303.5 mil pounds sterling in 1993, and by 17% to 335 mil pounds sterling in 1994. Researches are being conducted to design and construct more efficient, durable, and light weight pumps. Companies are developing magnetically driven gear pumps and corrosion resistant, easy to maintain, and high driving torque pumps.

To have and to hold

Article Abstract:

Advances in machines must be accompanied by advances in the related supporting cast of tools, feeders and cutting fluids for machines to acquire the desired benefits. Kitagawa has recently focused on several machine-manufacturing problems such as the speed of machining and the speed of the rotational chuck. The company is working with several Japanese lathe manufacturers, including Mori-Seiki and Okuma, to develop new chucks capable of reliable and safe operating speeds of up to 10,000 rpm. The new chuck has been produced from a mixture of different grades of steel.
